Book: Revenge of the Naked Princess

Oswald and His Princess

I had the good fortune of meeting Oswald, the author of ‘Newsroom Mafia’ at his book launch at Crosswords, Pune in 2012. He came across as a highly intelligent and humble man. He spoke nostalgically about his experience of three decades in top newspapers and had the audience enthralled. A book tells us much about the author and the prism through which he/she perceives the world. Hence,  I wasn’t surprised to find that his book was full of anecdotes and characters quite close to real life.

After reading non-fiction for many years, ‘Newsroom Mafia’ was the first novel that I had the pleasure of reading.  A thoroughly enjoyable read that gives one a rare glimpse into the world of news making, real stories behind the stories, and the bloody politics involved. This blog is not about his first but his second book, Revenge of the Naked Princess, a tale of forced conversion in the sixteenth century. The book is steadily climbing the bestseller ladder and is ranked number 11 among best-selling thrillers on landmarkonthenet.
Best-Selling author of Chankaya’s Chant fame also has some interesting things to say about Oswald’s latest book.

Revenge of the Naked Princess is an incredible, extremely gripping novel that moved me to tears –  Ashwin Sanghi.

On a hot, humid morning in May 1545, a joint conversion brigade of the Portuguese King and the Pope set out to spread Christ’s message of love and compassion, but they leave behind a deathly trail of murder and mayhem.
Armed with a monstrous cannon and scores of firearms, the brigade raids  Princess Darshana Kamya Kathodi’s palace in Tana, carrying for her and her people the King’s inviolable conversion order ... sealed by the Pope’s promise of a new heaven.
The beautiful, 18-year-old tribal princess fights back with her ace archers’ poison arrows.
Revenge of the Naked Princess shows how brutal, forced conversions can blur the line between religion and carnage.
