Hair Today Gone Tomorrow

I spend the better part of my day plotting, scheming, killing, lynching and jumping off roof tops. The setting of my current mystery novel, ‘Secrets We Hide’ demands all that and more of me. I am a writer and a poet and whimsical to the very roots of my hair. I love nature, talking to trees that kind of a thing. You see, a little whimsy is important to step into a world that only you see.

I also travel very often. I love the flow; the wind in my hair even though the hair gets tangled so bad that I end up tugging at them brutally.

I enjoy visiting new places, meeting people, seeing how they live, earn a living and yet are grateful for what life has dished out to them.
Don’t we all live like that? We have everything going for us except that one irksome, little thing that overshadows the bigger joys in life.

For me that bothersome little thing is my hair. It bothers me that nature’s been kind to me in the looks department but when it comes to hair its fine as gossamer.

Now that’s not a nice word when applied to hair! To collect each strand painstakingly from the pillow and the strand counting rising each day, believe me is not a nice way to start your day. It makes a woman feel helpless and get these bizarre, scary visions of baldness J

To avoid getting there I like to lead a healthy lifestyle.  I wake up at six-thirty to do my breathing exercises, have a hearty breakfast of boiled egg, sprouts and cheese seven days a week. One would think with all that protein my hair should be turning heads. But no such luck, all they do is fall and fall and dirty the floor, while, the maid pooh-poohs, ‘how much Madame’s hair is falling’.
Evenings I run in the open and I guess the grime and sweat don’t help much. Shampooing daily makes it worse but it’s either that or moving about with an itchy scalp.

On a good day they are fine as silk and on a bad one even a noodle would have more life. All that hair fall makes me self-conscious and I either end up getting a short haircut or tying them up when I step out of the house. But how long can you bunch you hair, when your girlfriends are flaunting their long tresses in the latest hairdo and hair color. It makes me see green.

For once all that envy actually pushed me to find a fix for my hair problem. There’s this old saying by Oliver Herford, “A hair in the head is worth two in the brush.”
And so I went looking for that perfect product…read on.

Hair Story - II

My determination to look for an effective and lasting treatment for my fine hair came quiet unexpectedly from my mom. She’s been a Dove loyalist since the late 90’s. Her beautiful hair at fifty-five stands testimony to that.

Incidentally, the poem below captures her love for Dove. About a month back mom recommended the Dov
e Hair Fall Rescue Intensive Roots treatment after watching their new advertisement.

I reluctantly agreed, what’s a girl got to lose except more hair?
Surprisingly, two weeks, yes, within two weeks (as it says on the product) the hair fall reduced drastically! Let me outline my journey with the tiny little bottles that not only revived my crowning glory but strengthened them from the roots and helped repair the breakage due to over-styling and chemical processes.

The intensive hair tonic priced at Rs 350/- is not only affordable but quite cute looking. All you need to do after you have washed your hair and toweled them dry is to make several partings with a forked comb.

Then squeeze one tiny tube evenly on the scalp, spread it out and follow it up with a gentle massage.

Leave it on, style, comb your hair like you do every day and step out and shine!

I must warn you that it has a lingering fragrance and will leave your hair smelling quite nice through the day. So nice, in fact that you wouldn't forget to apply it the next day.
The hair is the richest ornament of women’, said Martin Luther, we wouldn't want to lose it just because we are too lazy to follow up with it or too impatient for results. Continuing the treatment for two weeks is the key here and I am confident the product wouldn't disappoint you.

Hair Today Gone Tomorrow …But for DOVE

She was pretty once,
Deep set eyes, the chiseled nose,
Pointed chin, lovely as a rose,
But that’s not the first thing you noticed about her,
They fell at her hip,
Swaying when she swayed,
A curtain of darkness against her dusky skin,
Plaited in summer,
In winter they were free,
Ogled, envied,
Charmed, where ever they went,
Such was the grandeur of her silky hair.

Oh, care she took of the crowning glory
The hot oil massaged the scalp,
Grandma’s long brush strokes gave them life,
She ate well,
Knowing, nourishment flows to the root,
Every day like a prayer,
The water that cleansed her soul,
Also cleansed her hair.

On her journey from a girl to a woman,
every season,
They were grazed, chopped, experimented upon,
Colors, chemicals, commuting and pollution,
Work, stress and not to forget men,
Finally took the sheen off...

Adulthood comes at a heavy cost.
The beautiful face still stares back,
The deep set eyes, the chiseled nose,
But that’s not the first thing you notice about her,
They were ‘hair’ yesterday.

In desperation, she tries them all,
The fake TV ads, the false promise of attractive bottles,
But none soothe the frayed strands,
Lies are sold at a high price,
And then,
And then she stumbled upon Dove,
Now they frame her face,
Long and lovely, at peace,
Thanks to Dove…the new caretaker of her tresses.
